"I suggest arranging your flies, at least at first, by reserving one box for each of the major orders and another for the minor orders."  Dave Hughes,  Handbook of Hatches  Stackpole Books 2005  Also see: Another opinion.

These flies are not meant to be inclusive as there will be some flies that will need to be added based on the streams to be fished. Even experienced fly fishers will stop by a fly shop near the area they plan on fishing. Each assortment box has a printed image of the fly on the cover.

If you are new to fly fishing and the wings on the fly that just landed on your arm matches the wings on the box, you now know which box you should be using (the mayfly has wings like a sailboat, the caddis fly like a pup tent, and the stonefly has wings that lay flat over its back).

3 Pack Special

This special offer has one deluxe Mayfly box, one deluxe Caddisfly box and one economy Stonefly box for a total of 172 flies in three boxes. Only $125 (while they last) If purchased separately your price would be $135.85

A second opinion:

"...create separate fly boxes for mayflies, stoneflies, caddisflies, midges and terrestrials, with patterns that not only represent these individual groups but also the various stages of their lifecycles. Doing this will make you more efficient while on the water and help tremendously when trying to more accurately "match the hatch"..."   "I speak with countless anglers that have no idea whatsoever what the flies in their boxes are even supposed to represent."  Robert Younghanz a.k.a. "The Bug Guy" Becoming an Amateur Entomologist  Trout, Summer 2014    Back to top
