If you have ever wondered how fly fishing line is made, or why it costs from $40 to $70 for about ninety feet, this video is for you. The fly lines of today have come a long way since the horsehair or silk lines used years ago.
This video does not go into depth about how they vary the line density or how they create the different tapers, but it is a good introduction to the overall process. I would love to see a video on how they get the densities and tapers right, but I guess that is a trade secret. Click here to learn more about fly line.
A special thanks to Rio for producing this short video showing how their fly line is made.
